Finite-30: One Habit a Day for the Planet

30 Days-30 Actions-One Planet

What is Finite-30?

Finite-30 is a 30-day climate habit challenge. Each day, take one simple, no-cost action to reduce consumption and cut carbon emissions. These habits are easy, repeatable, and designed to fit into everyday life — because small steps taken together lead to big change.

Practice Finite 30 habits Every Day- Your Climate Calendar

Visualize the difference you make with our 30-day habit challenge. Each square represents an easy action you can take every day, like unplugging devices or avoiding plastic. Small steps like these fit into daily life and help build real, lasting change.

  • Start anytime — no need to wait for the 1st of the month.
  • Choose one habit per day from our curated list of 30 simple, no-cost actions.
  • Post your daily actions to inspire and connect.

Say no to single-use items (plastic bags, bottles, paper cups)

Why it matters: Single-use plastics like bags, bottles, and cups contribute massively to landfill waste and ocean pollution. Avoiding plastic bags, bottles, and cups can save up to 3 kg CO₂/kg plastic used, depending on usage
Tips to make it easier: Carry a reusable bottle, cloth bag, and steel cup in your backpack or car.

Support a street vendor or small shop instead of a supermarket today

Why it matters: Local businesses have lower carbon footprints and support livelihoods. The supermarket supply chain for that item involves long transport + storage + heavy packaging = a baseline footprint that is higher. The small shop/street vendor buys local or regionally sourced goods, uses minimal packaging, shorter transport, and fewer cold-chain steps. Local purchases reduce transport emissions by 0.1 kg CO₂/item

Tips to make it easier: Explore your local market or food stalls.

Share your action: Share your purchase and tag the vendor if possible with #Finite30 and tag @energy_swaraj, @TheFiniteEarthMovement.

Convert at least one room to solar power — or use a solar lamp

Why it matters: Switching to solar energy for one room can save 5–20 kg of CO₂ per Month. If you replace grid electricity with solar PV for powering one room, you typically avoid about 0.66–0.78 kg CO₂ per kWh of electricity shifted (this is the grid emission factor minus the life-cycle emissions of solar PV). Note: Avoid using AC as it leads to higher carbon emissions.

Tips to make it easier: Try solar lamps or chargers for small devices.

Avoid non-veg food for one meal today

Why it matters: A non-veg meal emits 2 to 4 kg more CO₂ than a plant-based one due to meat production, feed, land use, and processing.

Tips to make it easier: Try lentils, sprouts, or seasonal vegetables for one meal.

Share your action: Share your plant-powered plate with #Finite30 and tag @energy_swaraj, @TheFiniteEarthMovement.

Keep AC use to a minimum — set it at 26°C if switched on.

Why it matters: Raising the AC temperature by 1°C saves energy and can reduce 1 to 3 kg of CO₂ per day, depending on usage.

Tips to make it easier: Use fans, curtains, ventilation, or cool the room naturally.
