The initiative aims to combat climate change through a dual approach of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting energy conservation in the cleanest city of India, Indore.

About : Indore Climate Mission

Building on the city's success, the Indore Climate Mission (ICM) is a pioneering initiative of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) and Energy Swaraj Foundation (ESF) that aimed at addressing the urgent challenge of climate change through local, actionable steps. The mission also aspires to position Indore as a global leader in climate action by focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting energy conservation, and fostering sustainable daily practices among its citizens. Through widespread awareness campaigns and active community participation, ICM seeks to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change, safeguarding the environment for future generations.

Cycle Rally

The rallies will be held every morning for 100 consecutive days, from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM. Each day, the rallies will cover different parts of the city to engage with local residents, spread the mission’s message, and promote sustainable transportation within neighborhoods. Climate Choupal

The Climate Choupal will be held for 100 consecutive days, from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM. By bringing together citizens from all walks of life, Climate Choupals provide a platform for discussing local climate issues and sharing practical solutions to reduce carbon footprints. Residents of Indore interested in participating in the Climate Chaoupal can fill out the form below. The calendar will also allow you to explore the locations and scheduled events.

Climate Workshop

Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki and our team of trained volunteers will lead the Climate Workshop, which will be hosted in schools, colleges, corporations, and public spaces. The key feature of these sessions will be the Energy Swaraj Yatra Bus, a mobile solar-powered home that vividly showcases sustainable living. This initiative aims to inspire citizens to adopt eco-friendly practices in their everyday lives.

Targets of the Mission

The Indore Climate Mission seeks to position Indore as a global leader in climate action by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting energy conservation, and fostering sustainable daily practices among citizens. The core targets of the mission include:

Targeted reductions in electricity use could save approximately 800 to 1000 million kg of CO₂ emissions.

Key Activities of Indore Climate Mission

ICM focuses on a range of activities designed to engage and educate the public, promote sustainable practices, and reduce carbon emissions. The primary activities include:

Energy Literacy Training (ELT)

The Energy Swaraj Foundation has designed a unique course to educate masses on use of energy and its impact on environment and climate change. A three-hour training session to educate individuals and organizations on energy use and its environmental impact, delivered both online and offline by the ELT committee

Reduce Electricity Consumption (REC)

 Organizing competitions across various sectors, such as schools, colleges, government offices, industries, and households, to reduce electricity use. By comparing electricity usage from January-February 2025 to the previous year, the mission aims to incentivize participants to lower their energy consumption through cash prizes for the highest reductions

Daily Act Climate Correction - Just Skip It

In order to bring behavior change, the Foundation has designed 7 activities for 7 days of the week, Monday to Sunday. Each activity asks citizens to skip doing something that saves either energy or material. These activities on Skipped over good time become the habits of day to day living. 

Climate Programs

Large-scale programs, including fundraising events, launch programs, and concluding events, aim to amplify the mission’s visibility and draw community support.

Climate Volunteers

The mission will enroll and train around 500 to 1000 volunteers from various backgrounds, who will be instrumental in executing the mission’s activities and raising awareness.

Cycle Rally

A daily cycling event, covering different routes throughout the city over 100 days, with a goal of promoting alternative transportation and reducing reliance on motorized vehicles.

Social, Print, and Digital Media Campaigns

Leveraging different media platforms to spread awareness, highlight mission milestones, and engage with a wider audience.

Climate Competitions

Engaging the public in debates, essay writing, nukkad nataks, and short video contests that explore climate-related topics, fostering creativity and encouraging sustainable ideas.

Climate Talks and Yatra Bus Demonstrations

Led by Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki, these talks are organized in various organization. The Energy Swaraj Yatra bus, a mobile solar-powered home, serves as a live demonstration of sustainable living.
